Technology

Relevance

In our age of technological wizardry, the relevance of this subject is certainly beyond question. New inventions appear on an daily basis. They often revolutionize the way we do things, and technological literacy has become a key requirement for success in many fields.

The Building Of Models

Our programme is intended to introduce learners in Grade 7 to some of the key principles and processes of Technology, largely by having them design and make working models of items which provide solutions to specific problems. This has the learners building, for example, miniature pneumatic systems, cellphone towers, electro-magnetic cranes, and refugee homes.

"A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark."

- Robert Heinlein

Brief notes on the subjects offered at Hudson Park in the Intermediate and Senior Phases can be accessed via the menu below.

Skills

Technology calls for learners to draw upon their knowledge and produce practical solutions. Such work builds higher order thinking skills, creativity, problem solving ability, team work, and communication skills. Practical drawing and construction skills are also acquired.

A Subject For Everyone

Technology is introduced in the Senior Phase. It should never be considered as 'only for boys', and we stress to our girls who enjoy building things and are strong in Mathematics that, in Technology, there are as many careers open to women as there are to men. Our country needs technologically skilled professionals, such as engineers, designers, technicians, and architects, and now is a good time to start thinking about a future career.
