Hudson Park Primary is poised to take its swimmers to the next level after the completion of an upgrade to the Ted Allen Aquatic Centre.

The project was completed in November 2023 and involved enclosing the complex and installing a water heating system.

In December, the school celebrated with an opening function, followed by a gala. On this occasion, the Hudson Park Primary headmaster Garth Lumb gave reasons for the improvements. He said that the school wanted to ensure that all pupils at the school could have a chance of becoming competent swimmers with basic pool safety skills, adding, ‘We also wanted to be able to extend the training time of our league swimmers and young water polo players, and off-season training will help us to achieve this.’

School Governing Body chairperson Wendy Stagg noted that the school placed an emphasis on keeping the running costs of the pool as low as possible. To achieve this, tanks had been installed to provide additional water for topping up the pool, and pool covers had been fitted to reduce water loss and maintain the water temperature. Also, the heating pumps chosen would have a low electrical demand.
